A real American hero, as defined as what a hero should be, acts well when put into crises situations. Thus, in the context of the integration of Central High, Arkansas, a real American hero should act according to the American values system of the time. In this case, an American hero should have stood up for his or her beliefs; first, the hero must define his set of beliefs, and take hold of them. In this case, the hardest position to have would have been that of principal of Central High. A real American hero, which is what the principal of the school was (according to his portrayal in the movie The Crisis at Central High), would need to stand for the integration of the school, as to be a hero one needs to model noble characteristics of the society. Keeping the school open, responding well to all of the threats and maintaining both the emotional and physical safety of all students, espescially the black students being integrated, would be the proper way for an American hero to respond, as the eye of the nation surrounded the occurrance. The principal was able to hold his position and perform on a day to day basis, and thus, he would be a real American hero, as he gained victory through the integration of Central High school, Little Rock, Arkansas.
